MEET THE coach

Rob Mayes

I didn't come into rowing through an elite pathway.

Like many people, I discovered indoor rowing while looking for a way to get fitter, healthier and manage the pressures of a demanding job. What started as a few gym classes quickly became a passion. I lost weight, gained confidence and discovered a sport that challenged me physically and mentally while surrounding me with a supportive community.

That experience still shapes how I coach today.

I believe great coaching is about more than just training plans, technique and performance data. It's about understanding the person in front of you, how they move, think, learn and what motivates them. No two athletes are the same, so no two coaching journeys should be either.

Over the last decade I've worked with complete beginners, competitive indoor rowers, club athletes, Hyrox competitors and coaches looking to develop their own skills. My coaching combines technical rowing expertise, strength and conditioning principles, and a practical approach that helps athletes make meaningful, lasting progress.

Whether your goal is to improve your technique, build fitness, prepare for competition or simply enjoy rowing more, my aim is to help you understand your rowing, move better, and perform with confidence.
